We cannot run the country if we were to suspect agreements made between one
nation and another- Thasmeen
Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has said that “if we were to suspect the agreements made between one nation and another, or one government and another, then we cannot run the country.”
Thasmeen made this remark at the press conference held after concluding his official visit to India.
In view of the issue of the agreement between Indian GMR Infrastructure and the government, Thasmeen said that no responsible politician would refuse to accept to act upon a valid agreement between the state and another party.
Thasmeen said that his visit to India is not related to the GMR issue and he has not held any discussions regarding the issue.
DRP Leader rebutted the claims of Interim Vice President of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Umar Naseer that Thasmeen went on an official visit to India in relation to the GMR case. He said that the accusations of Umar Naseer are false and baseless.
Thasmeen said that the discussions were on the cooperation and close friendship between Maldives and India. He said that the talks were mainly on ways to further strengthen the close mutual relations the two countries held.
However he said that there was a mention of respecting valid agreements between the state and investors but it was not specific to GMR case.
