Government will not resolve issues through use of force- Abbas


Spokesperson of the government, Abbas Adil Riza has said that the present government does not resolve issues through use of force.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Abbas said that although the government have been faced with many criticism regarding how the government is tackling issues, the government does not believe in using force to resolve issues. He said that the government believes in dialogue, consultation and patience to resolve issues within the confines of the constitution.

Abbas said that the regardless of whether it is an issue related to the former administration or an issue related to Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, the government will work to resolve by taking steps with patience.

In view of the GMR case, Abbas said that the government will work to protect and guarantee the rights of all parties involved. He said that the government will continue to respect the agreement made between the government and the GMR unless a court of law invalidates the agreement.

Abbas said that government will not cause any influence upon any independent institution despite the many criticisms and calls of some politicians.

“The government keeps monitoring the roles played by independent institutions. If there is anything the government can do then it would be done within the law,” he said.

Abbas said that there are many investments of India in the Maldives and their trade is carried out very independently. He said that there have been no complaints from any of these investments.

He said that the government respects the GMR agreement and the government is only working to resolve the legal issues in the agreement.

Abbas said that no country has anything that precedes the people and the constitution and countries such as India and others will accept this fact. He added that he does not believe that there will be any effect on the relations between Maldives and India due to the government working to resolve issues as per the constitution.

In addition to this, Abbas said that India and Maldives has a very good relationship and this close ties cannot be broken.
