Our Islamic unity should be saved from the calls and acts of Jahiliyya- Gasim

Jumhooree Party Leader Gasim Ibrahim has said that the Islamic unity of the Maldives and freedom to practice Islam in the Maldives should be saved from the calls and acts of the age of Jahiliyya (Ignorance).

Gasim Ibrahim made this remark in an exclusive interview to the Editor, Abdul Latheef Adam, Miadhu Daily at the celebration held to mark the 4^th anniversary of Jumhooree Party. Gasim said that the biggest agenda or the aim of the Jumhooree Party is to protect and preserve the freedom and independence of the Maldivian people and to make them self sufficient.

Gasim said that the Maldivian people since their acceptance of Islam some 900 years back have always been diligent in defending their freedom to practice Islam. He said that there have been no major threats to the Islamic unity of the Maldives except in the 17 years of the rule of the Portuguese invasion.

“But what is it that we are witnessing today? This Thursday, a group of people defiled the biggest mosque in Maldives, the Islamic Centre, Masjid Mohamed Thakurufaanul Auzam. So nw the prayer is to be performed with the mosques closed and locked?”

Gasim said that this was the case of the Muslims during the age of Jahiliyyah when they were getting persecuted by the idolaters and the enemies of Islam. He added that now it is the Palestinian Muslims who are living in this oppressed state at the hands of the Zionists. He said that the people of Maldives will never accept for Maldives to reach this state when Maldives is a hundred percent Muslim nation.

“Maldivian people’s would not want their right to worship Allah to be violated. But now this right is being violated. So it is Jumhooree Party believes that it is the most important aim of the party to strive to save the people from this state,” he said.

“I am reiterating a call to strive against these threats to save our sovereignty because of these things that is happening around us,” he said.
