MDP boycotted Wednesday’s Majlis not to earn the displeasure of Israel: Sheikh Imran

President of the Adhaalath Party Sheikh Imran Abdullah has said that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) boycotted Wednesday;s session of the Peoples’ Majlis because if they participated in the vote taken to ban the flights of the Israeli national carrier to Maldives might earn the displeasure of the Zionist Occupation.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Sheikh Imran said that MDP’s claim that they boycotted the Majlis session not to participate in the vote taken for the cabinet approval was a farce.

He said that the real reason for their boycott was that they did not wanted to participate in the vote taken to pass the resolution proposed to ban the Isreali flights.

“If they participate in the vote they would have to vote in favour of the resolution to save their face from the people. And if that happen Israel would cut of their ties with MDP. So they took this move,” he said.

Meanwhile, the resolution was presented to the Majlis in view of the case filed in the National Security Committee by Adhaalath Party’s Vice President Dr. Mauroof Hussein alleging that the former MDP government tried to establish an Israeli military base in Lhaviyani Atoll Dhidhoo. He also accused the former government of trying to lease land plots for Israelis as farms.

A vote was taken in relation to the resolution proposed by Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed last Wednesday. The resolution stated that the flights of the Israeli national carrier should be cancelled until the National Security Committee concludes the investigation regarding the issue.

The Committee has so far questioned five government authorities related to the matter but the committee has found no evidence yet to back the accusations against the former government in relation to Israel.
