Members of families poverty stricken because of Nasheed are more than
total MDP members: Adheeb

Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adheeb has said that the members of the families poverty stricken because of former President Mohamed Nasheed will be much more in number than the members of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Adheeb said that the families of the employees working in the resorts of the Vice President WaheedDeen, Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim and Champa will be more than one by three of the population. He said this in view of the calls of the former President to tourists visiting Maldives to boycott the resorts of the three.

Adheeb said that Nasheed is doing a great injustice and an oppression to the employees of these resorts and their families.

“In which country does a person who was in power come out to the streets and tries to lead the people to poverty after resigning? Shouldn’t we take heed of this question,” he said.

Adheeb noted that the income of the state from the tax given by three persons will be one by third of the total income.

“Nasheed can only delude some tourists from the West. If they stop coming the only problem will be the decline in the tips money for the employees. Even if tourists are to come from China alone the resorts will be full. Nasheed cannot impose any influence on Indian market. The outcome of the attempts of Nasheed will be that the owner will get his income as before, but the employees will have to suffer a great loss. So how can such a person who does not care about his people be ascended as the President?,” he asked.

Adheeb said that the former President Nasheed is trying to repeat the same thing he did after the boxing day Tsunami. “Even that time he tried to damage the economy of the country and also tried to spread other religions in the islands. The problems are risingbecause his work to misguide the people to go away from the religion as he said,” he said.

“They want Hardingham and his family members to be part of the Tourism Board. They want to take undue advantage. When this is not happening now they are calling for this boycott. Is not MDP in the clutches of this Hardhimham.

Adheeb said that the people of Maldives will not give the opportunity for anyone to damage the tourism industry of the country.
