MDP members call for Dr. Didi’s resignation
Some member of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) yesterday called for the resignation of MDP President Dr. Ibrahim Didi as he started to address the members in a public rally of the party.
A top member of the party informed Miadhu Daily that the actions of these members confirm the rumours surrounding a split in the ranks of the party. He said that this is the beginning of the change of MDP.
“MDP is the party that established the freedom of speech in Maldives. However, what we witnessed last night was MDP obstructing its President from addressing the members. They did not stop at that. Rather they switched off the electricity and tried to assault Dr. Didi,” he said.
The informant said that Dr Didi also has many loyal members and if not for them he would have been attacked.
He said that the people will lose their trust in MDP if they are to witness such lowly actions from the self acclaimed vanguards of democracy.
“Alhan said earlier too that the end of the MDP government was because all the decisions were taken in the activity house. Today we are seeing the same thing over and over again. We see them using convicts and thugs to decide for the party. This is nothing but a great harm for the MDP,” he said.
He said that the members should take heed and abandon those who try to obstruct those who want to reform the party in this critical time.
It is reported that some people tried to assault the party’s Vice President when he was coming out of DhiTV after giving them an interview.
