Who is the Liar..Nasheed or CMAG?
Nasheed alleges that the CMAG told him that he was ousted in a coup
An audio of the former President Mohamed Nasheed has surfaced in which he alleges that the delegates of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) told him that he was ousted on February 7 in a coup.
It is unknown when and where the former President made this allegation. “The delegates from the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, CMAG…Foreign Minister of Barbados, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Foreign Secretary of Australia…They came and investigated for three days and they came to me and told me that the power was transferred in a coup,” Nasheed said in the 15 second audio clip.
Despite this allegation of the former President Nasheed, up until now the CMAG has not stated in any of their statements that the February 7 power transfer involves a coup. In view of Nasheed’s allegation, some political leaders have said that if the CMAG delegates said as such, then the matter should be investigated.
In view of the recent statement of CMAG, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali said that there are many issues raised in the statement and that some things mentioned in the statement are unacceptable.
“If it is said that the majority of the people of Maldives wants something, it should be said after taking a survey. There has been no such surveys conducted. Then how is it possible for some foreign two or three persons who came here for only two three days to decide on behalf of the majority of the people of Maldives?,” he said.
Thasmeen noted that the CMAG is a group of the Commonwealth and that if a vote is taken among all of the member states of the Commonwealth, the conclusion of the Commonwealth might be different from that of the group.
