A group of bandits staged a drama in the past three years-
Mohamed Fahmy
Mohamed Fahmy has said that the past three years were not years that the country was ruled by the constitution but were rather three years that a group of bandits staged a drama.
Feydhoo MP and opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Deputy Leader Alhan Fahmy’s father, Alhan Fahmy said at the press briefing held after the ceremony held to celebrate his and his son, Bunyaameen Fahmy’s signing their membership with the Jumhooree Party.
Mohamed Fahmy said that a leader should rule with honour and dignity. He said that the leader should regard the people as precious jewels and should not differentiate between them regardless of their party affiliation. He added that ‘this was unfortunately not witnessed in the past three years.’
“The President should not be a person who jumps at the people with rage when ever their occurs differences of opinions. The President should be much more dignified than that,” he said.
“I have been living in Sri Lanka for the past five years. If the party approves I will initiate activities of the Jumhooree Party within the Maldivian community in Sri Lanka,” he said.
Mohamed Fahmy noted that he had been the first 50 members of the Adhaalath Party but he joined Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) after differences that occurred during the 2008 presidential elections. He said that he has been in DRP ever since up until he signed to Jumhooree Party last night.
“There is nothing wrong in switching parties. With the advancement of one’s thinking it is natural that the person will change his party. There is nothing wrong in joining the party that can benefit the people most. I am joining Jumhooree Party for this same purpose. The only thing that I will never change is my religion alone,” he said.
Mohamed Fahmy also accused former President Nasheed of distorting the reality by Nasheed’s claim that he ruled the country in line with the thoughts of the government of United States.
“Nasheed ruled in accordance to the thoughts of the Islamophobes of the United Kingdom and the Jews. If I know English well, I would have sent a letter to the United States government explaining and clarifying this,” he said.
