Nasheed rule wasn’t based according to ideals of neither the people nor the intn’l community- Dr. Hassan Saeed

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed’s Special Advisor and the leader of Dhivehi Qaumee Party (DQP), Dr. Hassan Saeed has said that the former President Mohamed Nasheed failed because he failed to rule according to the ideals of the people of Maldives and also the international community.

In view of Nasheed’s recent statement that he governed Maldives on the basis of American ideals, Dr. Hassan Saeed said that to rule outside the boundaries of the democratic governance and to violate the human rights of the people was not the system of governance expected by neither the people of Maldives nor the government of United States of America.

Dr. Hassan Saeed said that he does not believe that the US will want to rule by fear mongering the media and by arresting judges.

“To govern in line with the mindset of the US government is not arresting judges. Nor is it threatening the media. Nor is it violating the rights of the people. Nor that corruption is made rampant in the country. Ex President Nasheed not only failed the people but also failed the international community,” he said.

He said that the people only wanted the former President to fulfill his presidential vows, to reduce the expenditure of the government, to give opportunity to capable and educated people, to not threaten people by fear mongering tactics and to respect the values of democracy.

Dr. Hassan Saeed said that Nasheed had to resign two years before the end of his five year presidency because he also failed the international community.

President’s Special Advisor also condemned the call of the former President Nasheed and his associates to boycott some tourist resorts thereby threatening the already fragile economy of Maldives.

Meanwhile, Former president Nasheed recently criticised the US for not supporting him after he was ousted in a ‘coup’, even as he said that he governed according to American principles and wanted to be a close friend of the occupired state of the Jews.

He said that he governed Maldives on the basis of American ideals and wanted the country to be a moderate Islamic society and have close relations with western countries.

Speaking at a programme known as ‘Democracy’ now shown in TV and Radio channels operated by voluntary organisations, Nasheed said that he felt very sad, as he governed according to American principles and wanted to be a close friend of Israel, but the US didn’t acknowledge his way and supported the current President Mohamed Waheed.

Nasheed is in the US to promote his documentary movie ‘The Island President’ at which he advocates the challenges faced by Global Warming.

He also criticised the US for not doing much work on Climate Change issue. Furthermore, he asked the US government to reconsider its decision and call for an early election at Maldives.
