Debt increases to MRF 2 billion because of the unsettled bills of last year: President

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has said that the state debt has increased to more than MRF 2 billion because of last year’s unsettled bills of the government offices. The President said this while addressing the people of Fonadhoo.

“Even though the budget was passed based on the current estimates, it is more than 5billion compared to the income. This includes the spending of last year. Because the government have not settled electricity bills of last evening, the government needs money to pay these bills,” he said.

“The state needs another MRF 2 billion. As a result, MRF 7 billion have been increased in the state debt,” he said.

President Dr. Waheed said that the political, economical and social sector have disintegrated so much because of the leaders of these sectors do not have good foresight and wisdom.

“It won’t be easier to solve this. However, we should work tirelessly. With the current political and economical drawbacks faced by the nation it is rather a difficult time for the current leader of Maldives,” he said.
