Minister of Housing and Environment Mr. Mohamed Aslam has met with the Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Dr. Ursula Schafer-Preuss at its Manila Headquarters.

Minister briefed the Vice President of the ongoing programs assisted by the ADB and the thanked the ADB for its continued support for the Maldives in particular in the areas of climate change and renewable energy development in the Maldives.

Minister also stressed on the importance of strengthening of the Maldives Energy Authority in order to attract private sector into the development of renewable energy in meeting the carbon neutral pledge of the Maldivian government to which ADB pledged over USD 300,000 to develop capacity at the Maldives Energy Authority.

The Vice President re-iterated ADB’s support and assistance to the Maldives in these areas.

Discussions also focused on the challenges that the Maldives is facing due to climate change and ongoing efforts at international level on climate change under the United Nations framework.

Minister is in the Philippines to attend ADB’s Regional Conference on Policy Responses to Climate-Induced Migration in Asia and the Pacific.
