HRCM Publish List of Issues Regarding Civil and Political Rights in Maldives
The UN
Human Rights Committee has published the list of issues to be taken up in
connection with the consideration of the initial report of Maldives under the
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The document can
be downloaded from the OHCHR website.
The Committee considered the Human Rights Commission’s document highlighting
important human rights issues in the Maldives which are relevant to Rights ICCPR
in preparing this list of issues. HRCM is now preparing a detailed shadow report
to submit for the review of Maldives by the UN Human Rights Committee in 105th
Session in July 2012.
This report will be considered when the state report is reviewed in the 105th session of the Committee in July 2012. The committee will then publish the conclusions of this dialogue with the State in a set of “Concluding Observations” consisting of positive factors, principal subjects of concern and recommendations.
The Maldives acceded to the ICCPR and its First Optional Protocol on 19
September 2006 with a reservation on Article 18 and it came into force on 19
December 2006.
