MNDF and Police will be summoned to 241 Committee with regards to Tragic Drowning Incident- Opposition coalition

Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed from the Parliamentary Opposition Coalition has said that the top officials of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service will be summoned to the 241 Committee of the Peoples’ Majlis with regards to the death of the four students and Principal Ali Nazim of Hiriyaa School, in the tragic drowning incident Friday morning while at a school camp in Huraa of Kaafu Atoll.

Speaking to the media, Riyaz Rasheed said that the top officials of MNDF and Police Service will be summoned by the 241 Committee to investigate if there was any negligence on the part of the armed forces and police in providing assistance in the incident.

Riyaz Rasheed said that there are many issues that are raised against MNDF and the Police on how they responded to the call of assistance by the people of Huraa to rescue the drowning victims.

Riyaz Rasheed called President Mohamed Nasheed and Speaker of the Peoples’ Majlis to shorten their official trip abroad as a mark of respect in this national tragedy.
