Ibrahim Nasir Int’l Airport awards the
prestigious GMR Scholarship awards
India’s GMR Group, which manages Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, goes on their second year to award scholarships for students specializing in the technical discipline, for a period of four years in their educational term.
In a ceremony held on 5th September 2011, eight recipients under the selection of the Government of the Republic of Maldives were awarded the GMR Scholarship Awards for the Year 2011, and will begin in the Fall Semester of 2011.
“GMR covers all the costs of the scholarships, including the tuition fee and accommodation fee. Under these scholarships, the students will be enrolled at Jwaharlal Technological University, Hyderabad in India.” stated Mr Andrew Harrison, CEO of INIA. He further states, “The scholarships are one of the ways we as a responsible organization for the community we work with, can directly impact our youth and enhance the quality of their lives.”
GMR Group Chairman Mr G M Rao saw that there was a great need for technical people in the Maldives and since India was very prominent for its technical institutions, Chairman Rao pledged to assist for the betterment of the technical work force by providing scholarships per year to Maldivian students.
“We are happy to inform that on the basis of academic performance, personal interviews and other processes, under the auspice of the Government of Maldives, eight students were selected and awarded a 4-year BTECH programme at Jwaharlal Technological University, Hyderabad. This scholarship is being offered to the students under the MOU signed between the Government of Maldives and GMIAL.
