The Opposition members of the Peoples’ Majlis have stated that they would do their utmost to fail the no-confidence vote against the Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizz that the government is considering to propose the Peoples’ Majlis.
In a press conference held at the opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Deputy Leader of the party Ibrahim Shareef said that DRP would not let the government to win the no-confidence vote against PG Muizz in claims of his failure to cooperate with the Maldives Police Service in relation to the case of the son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, GassanMaumoon.
The new political party founded by former President Gayoom, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) also held a press conference in reference to the decision of the government to propose the Majlis to take a no-confidence vote against Muizz, Interim Spokesperson of the party and GalolhuDhekunu MP Ahmed Mahloof said that the opposition will try to back and support the Prosecutor General no matter how much the government tries to intimidate and threaten the PG.
Mahloof said that it is unreasonable and foolhardy of the government to believe that the PG has to back the government even in matters of outright opposition to the Constitution. He said that it is undemocratic of the government to intimidate the PG by threatening him by taking a no-confidence vote against him.
