Govt considers proposing to take no-confidence vote against PG
Press Secretary of the President, Mohamed Zuhair has said that the government is considering on proposing the Peoples’ Majlis to take a no-confidence vote against the Prosecutor General (PG) Ahmed Muizz.
Zuhair said that a team of Maldives Police Service met with the Prosecutor General, in view of the charges raised by the Police against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s son GassanMaumoon and the verdict of the Ciminal Court ruling the his arrest unlawful, to seek his interpretation of the Article 49 of the Constitution. He said that the Prosecutor General Muizz did not cooperate with the Police team.
Zuhair said that Muizz told the Police that it was not correct for them to meet him regarding the matter and that they should instead talk to the Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh.
Furthermore, Zuhair said that the cabinet also discussed the matter of proposing the Majlis to take a no confidence vote against the PG.
In view of this, Prosecutor General Muizz said that he is not the least worried regarding the government’s proposal to take a no-confidence vote against him. He said that he has not contradicted the constitution.
The opposition members of the Peoples’ Majlis assured that the government’s no-confidence vote against the PG would be of no avail and would be a total flop in the Majlis.
