TMA Flying Green fund launched

Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) has announced the official launch of its charitable fund: “Flying Green.”

In typical TMA style the “Flying Green Fund” started very quietly to build on the 1st April 2011, from this date the Board of Directors decided to donate directly from the company one dollar for every return passenger transfer to the “Flying Green Fund.”

To launch the Flying Green Fund the owners represented here by Chairman Lars Petre and board member Mohamed Moosa of TMA decided to support Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll in its tree planting program.

TMA is very pleased and excited to assist Hinnavaru in this project, as TMA believe it is vital that the local islands have excellent vegetation as the greener the island the healthier the environment is for the local population, as trees assist in improving local air quality and also trees greatly improve the local scenery and thus make the island a more attractive place to live.

The “Flying Green Fund” has donated MRF 1,000,000 to kick start this project. These funds are going to be utilized by the local island council to support the tree planting program over the next twelve months. TMA is committed to ensure that the funds are spent in the appropriate manner so will be monitoring the progress of the project by visiting the island on a regular basis in the coming year.

The purpose of the “Flying Green Fund” is to engage in environmental projects throughout the Maldives both small and large. The reason why Trans Maldivian Airways decided to support environmental projects is that the company strongly believes that the local environment is very precious and although it is very difficult for an airline to be one hundred percent environmentally friendly, we believe that all airlines should be environmentally aware and hence why this fund was established.

In the coming months TMA will be educating our passengers about the “Flying Green Fund” and its projects both in the TMA terminal and the inflight magazine. From the 23rd October TMA will be selling flying green wrist bands for $1 each and all the proceeds will go towards the “Flying Green Fund.”
