Enough has been said about Gayoom-
Nasheed
-People have forgotten the banishment of Sultans, Shamsuddin and Hassan Izzuddin
President Mohamed Nasheed has said that he has talked and written enough about former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and that he does not want to make any further comments regarding the former President.
The President said this, at a press conference held yesterday, while answering questions from journalists, on ongoing political issues in the Maldives.
President Nasheed said that the lack of popularity of Gayoom is being exposed by the information revealed by the Elections Commission regarding the membership of the new party spear-headed by the former President.
The President also signaled on imposing a penalty on former President for the allegations of corruption made against him. He said that Sultan Shamsuddin and Sultan Hassan Izzuddin ruled the country for 32 years and were banished to the island of Fuahmulah. He said that the people stopped talking about the two kings within one or two months of the banishment. The President noted that although some people believe that Hassan Izzuddin died shortly after the banishment, he died after five years.
Also during the press conference, President Nasheed confessed to his statement regarding the islanders of Dhidhoo which was published and broadcasted in the media. He said that it is irresponsible of the media to share such unofficial talks of the President to the public.
