Only 4 scholars agreed to break away from
govt coalition- Hussein Rasheed
Sheikh Idrees requested not to break away from the coalition
Minister of state for Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Hussein Rasheed Ahmed has revealed that only four scholars from the council of scholars of the Adhaalath Party voted in favour of the decision to break away from the government coalition.
In a press conference held at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs yesterday, the State Minister Hussein Rasheed said that the people were duped into believing that the 32 members of the religious council of the party unanimously agreed on the decision.
“Some people were duped into believing that 32 religious scholars of Maldives were in favour of that decision. They were duped into believing that we working are against these 32 scholars. However this is not the true reality of this affair. The Religious Council is the name given to the Council of Adhaalath Party. The Council has a total of only 9 scholars. The other members are not religious scholars. The other members are those who have been elected from the different constituencies. Only four scholars agreed on this decision to break away from the government coalition,” he said.
Hussein Rasheed said that a member of the party taking up a certain post or a job is in not a plausible reason for him to be sacked from the party.
“The party’s charter is no way obligates the members to take up a certain post to earn their living. Only the discipline committee can decide on sacking a member. And this process has many phases to it. I believe that the leadership will follow the charter in taking decisions,” he said.
Hussein Rasheed said that Sheikh Idrees Hussein who is among the religious council of the party also spoke against the decision of the party to break away from the government coalition.
