Ambassador Didi participates in the Province of Limburg Climate Parliament
Ali Hussain Didi Ambassador to Belgium and the EU, was invited by Frank Smeets, Deputy Minister for Environmental Affairs of the Province of Limburg (Belgium), to the launch of the Limburg Carbon Neutral policy.
In a bid to save countries like the Maldives from disappearing, the Province of Limburg has created a Climate Parliament comprising of members of the local governments, representatives if the industrial sectors and the academic sector. The Limburg Province has set-out a number of concrete steps to become carbon neutral by 2020.
During his address to the Climate Parliament, Ambassador Didi explained the consequences of climate change already visible in the Maldives. He impressed on the urgency for countries to cut their carbon emissions drastically to reverse climate change.
He further stated: “I am honoured by the Limburg Province commitment to become carbon neutral. On behalf of my President and my country I thank the people of Limburg for being brave. Maldives will be forever indebted to you”.
The Limburg Higher College of Technology has selected 4 students who will be travelling to the Maldives this summer with zero carbon footprints. They will be presenting the gold book signed by all members of the Climate Parliament and Ambassador Didi to the President of Maldives in an effort to prove Limburg’s commitment to save the Maldives.
