Dictator Gayyoom’s allowance will be cut when MDP wins Majlis majority- Moosa Manik
Ruling party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group Leader, Moosa Manik has said that the allowances of the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom will be cut when the MDP wins the majority in the Peoples’ Majlis.
Speaking at a MDP public rally held at Dharubaaruge on Monday night, Moosa Manik said that Gayyoom and those loyal to him in the Majlis have been trying to interfere in the powers and responsibilities of the government and for the obstruction of country’s development for political motives.
Moosa Manik said that the allowances cannot be granted for the former President Gayyoom when he is still active in politics.
Moosa Manik said that MDP vows to uphold supremacy of the Constitution in the Majlis and not to permit the opposition DRP members to usurp powers of the Majlis.
Moreover, Moosa Manik also said that all judges and independent institutions should take heed the day when MDP wins the 39 MPs and eventually win the majority in the Peoples’ Majlis. He however said that those judges and institutions that work justly and fairly should not be concerned and worried when the MDP wins the Majlis majority.
Moosa Manik said that the ruling party is striving to win the Majlis majority because of the many government initiations that are being pended in the Majlis due to the opposition majority.
Meanwhile, with more opposition MPs joining the ruling MDP, the party appears to be heading for a very comfortable majority in the Peoples Majlis.
While the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) is in disarray, all advantages are pouring into President Mohamed Nasheed’s MDP. Most vocal opponents of MDP, Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed and Maafannu hulhangu MP Abdullah Abdur Raheem have switched parties from the main opposition DRP to ruling MDP.
