I waited for the right time to leave DRP- Abdullah Abdur Raheem
-More than 100 people join MDP with Abdullah Abdur Raheem

Mafannu Hulhangu MP, Abdullah Abdur Raheem has switched from main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) to ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) last night at a special function held by MDP at Dharubaaruge.

Speaking at the function, Maafannu Hulhangu MP Abdullah Abdur Raheem, who had earlier vociferously defended DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom in the present DRP power struggle, said that the people of his district now are with the ruling MDP.

“The people of Maafannu Hulhangu whom I represent in the Peoples’ Majlis have the full support for ruling MDP. I waited as a DRP member up till the right time. And the time has now come,” he said.

Abdullah Abdur Raheem, who earlier announced he was joining MDP few months back though he reversed his decision that time, said that this time he joined MDP with all his heart and soul and that no one can change this decision now.

He said that MDP has now speeded up implementing their presidential vows and that he now wants to see these becoming a reality.

Moreover, Abdullah Abdur Raheem said that now MDP has won the Majlis majority and that his thoughts are to decrease the foreign exchange rate of the US Dollars. He said that it is important to sack the current governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) to stabilise the foreign US Dollar shortage and economic crisis.

“The exchange rate of US Dollars is going up because of only one reason. The Parliamentary Group Leader Reeko Moosa Manik has started his campaign against this reason. We can only solve this problem by removing the current MMA governor from his post,” Abdullah Abdur Raheem said.

Abdullah Abdur Raheem said that one of the reasons he resigned from DRP is because many of the opposition is against the tax system that the government has proposed.
