Maldivian students and families in Mysore celebrate University Graduation 2011
Maldivian students and families residing in Mysore recently celebrated the completion of University studies for this year (2011).
To mark this, a colourful function was held in the name of Maldivian Students Graduation - 2011 at Golden Landmark Resort in Mysore city. This was an unofficial ceremony organized and financed by the students before most of them depart. Their University-organized official graduation function will be held nearly one year later.
Altogether, 93 Maldivian students studying in various colleges affiliated with Mysore University participated in the programme.
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Ahmed Ali Manik, was the Chief Guest at this function. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, High Commissioner of Maldives in India and Defense Advisor at Maldives High Commission in New Delhi Lt. Col. Ali Zuhair were also among the dignitaries who graced the ceremony.
University of Mysore was represented by Dr. R. Indira, Director, International
Centre. She spoke on behalf of the University. Prof. K. V. Prabhakara,
Principal, SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, addressed the students on behalf
of the institutions where Maldivian students are studying.
Fr Leslie Moraes, Principal, St. Philomenas College, Mysore and Sister Sajitha,
Principal, Teresian College, Mysore, were also present. President of Maldivian
Students Association Mr. Ahmed Shifau welcomed while Ms. Aishath Neelam Rasheed
of Mahajana College proposed a vote of thanks. The Master of the Ceremony was
Ms. Aishath Shifunee.
During this ceremony the State Minister also handed over the Certificate of Registration of Maldivian Students Association, Mysore to the students representative. The Association, first of its kind in India among Maldivian students is expected to be inaugurated soon.
