Illegal to use the logo of a political without party authorization- Elections Commission

President of the Elections Commission, Fuwad Thaufeeg has said that it is illegal to use the logo of any political party without the party’s official authorization.

In a time when the news of the fuming internal crisis between DRP leadership and DRP founding leader Gayyoom’s faction who has been using DRP’s logo in their rallies has been making headlines in the media, according to the Elections Commissions the logo of a political party is the intellectual property of that party and it is illegal for others to use it without the authorization of the party.

DRP Leadership condemned the misuse of the DRP logo by the Gayyoom’s faction for their own rallies against the leadership. The leadership stated that the logo can be used only under the official authorization of the party council.

However, some members who are affliated with the Gayyoom’s faction say that any person can use the logo and that it is not the intellectual property of DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali.

DRP Leader Thasmeen stated that the party council will take the required action against miscreants who misuse the party’s logo to achieve their own political agendas. He said that it is very un-ethical of Gayyoom’s faction to use the logo without the official authorization of the council.
