Using the party logo and adding a letter to the name is a crime- Thasmeen
Leader of the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party, Thasmeen Ali has said that it is a crime to misuse the logo of DRP and to change the name of the party by adding a letter to the name.
DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali that everyone is given the opportunity to form Political Parties. However, he said that DRP has a charter which is obliged upon all members to follow. He said that it is against the charter of DRP to use its logo and name against the leadership of the party and the council of the party.
Thasmeen condemned former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s faction for misusing the logo of the party and altering the name of the party by adding the letter Z in front of DRP. He said that it is against the law. He said that the party will take legal steps against Gayyom faction.
Meanwhile, the news of the fuming internal crisis within DRP has been making headlines in the media for quiet sometime. The anti-Thasmeen movement first led by the dismissed DRP Deputy Leader Umar Naseer, which is now taken over by DRP founding leader Gayoom, has been continuously attempting to expose Thasneem’s leadership lapses and defame him.
However, against the background of all these mounting challenges and the volatile internal clashes, Thasmeen on his part has been assuring his fellow party members and supporters he will remain firm as Party Leader despite the opposition to oust him. Thasmeen is seen to have the support of other strong politicians such as Speaker Abdulla Shahid, and MP Hamdoon Hameed.
Though it was Former President, DRP founding Leader Gayoom himself who endorsed Thasmeen to be his successor in party leadership, he later announced that his support for Thasmeen is now lost.
