Maldives Host Stars for Water Conservation Push

A huge gathering of water sports legends, global icons and leading conservationists will take place in the Maldives later this year, in support of water conservation worldwide.

The Six Senses Watermen event will see the star-studded crowd descend on the Six Senses Laamu resort in the Maldives for music, food, water sports clinics and debates on issues surrounding water conservation. Big names at the event will include actress and environmentalist Jane Seymour, singer and keen surfer Jason Mraz, Australian inventor of the short board Bob McTavish, US surf legend and face of Ralph Lauren Polo Sport Buzzy Kerbox, and many more.

The event will run from September 30 to October 4, uniting some of the world's best surfers, windsurfers, divers, free divers, kite surfers, ocean explorers, wake boarders, aquatic filmmakers, biologists and oceanographers. Alongside the debates and talks, chefs will cook gourmet food using ethically-sourced ingredients and a range of biodynamic wines from Australia will be on offer.

A variety of charities will benefit from proceeds of the event, including the Blue Marine Foundation, Plant a Fish and Water Charity. The Maldives is a poignant location for this event, as the future of the country's islands and their 400,000 inhabitants will be drastically affected by rising sea levels and other issues around water conservation.

The Six Senses Laamu holiday resort in the Maldives is the only resort on the Laamu Atoll, and boasts perfect sandy beaches, untouched coral reefs and an underwater ecosystem teeming with life. The resort was built using locally-sourced materials, and aims to make as small an impact on its beautiful surroundings as possible, while providing guests with perfect Maldives holidays.
