Maldives Named as Germany’s Dream Holiday Destination
According to a recent survey, the Maldives topped a list of dream holiday destinations for Germans. It revealed that if money were not an issue, most German tourists would opt for a holiday to the Indian Ocean nation.
The Maldives is a popular tourist destination for Europeans, including many Germans, who flock to resorts across the archipelago for their holidays. The country is the Maldives’ third-largest market, with 2009 statistics showing 69,085 arrivals at Male’ International Airport from German citizens.
Popular German travel website Hotel.de conducted the survey, asking the question that if money was not a factor in planning a holiday, what would be their dream destination to visit.
While neighbouring countries rated the US highly, The Maldives recorded the top position for Germans taking part in the online survey. The luxury beach destination is famous throughout the world for its idyllic tropical settings set on 1,193 coral atolls.
For Germans, 10.88% voted for the Maldives, 7.91% for the Caribbean, 6.68% for the US, 6.03% for Australia, 5.05% for the South Pacific, 4.62% for New Zealand, 3.55% for Canada, 3.09% for Italy, 3.07% for Scandinavia, and 2.91% for Mauritius
Of the 11,000 clients that participated in the survey, one percent said they would opt to go on a tour to Greenland or Antarctica.
Germany and the Maldives have close relations, with the EU member regularly providing assistance on environmental issues. The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation also participates in travel fairs and exhibitions in Germany, with the most recent being the BOOT Fair in Dusseldorf and the ITB at Berlin. (tnmv.net)
