Specialised Training of Maldives Customs Service Officers in India
Twenty officers of the Maldives Customs Service are shortly proceeding to India to attend specialised training courses at National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics (NACEN), Faridabad, which is the apex training institute in India on such subjects.
The training programme has been arranged on the initiative of Indian High Commission in Male’ and all the expenditure in connection with the training, including air fare, will be paid by the Government of India.
The first batch of 10 officers, who are proceeding to India this week, along with senior officers of the Customs Department and Mr. Mohamed Kamal, Deputy Principal Collector of Customs, called on the Indian High Commissioner, Dnyaneshwar M Mulay, yesterday morning.
Welcoming the officers, the High Commissioner expressed the hope that these specialized trainings will improve the knowledge base and efficiency of the officers to effectively discharge their work. He also assured that the Government of India will continue to fulfill the manpower training needs of Maldives in general and the Customs Department in particular by sending Maldivian officers to India as well as arranging short-term deputation of Indian experts in Maldives for imparting the requisite training. The number of Maldivian nationals receiving training under Government of India assistance in various subjects is more than 300 per year, which is the highest in the region.
Mohamed Kamal and the trainee officers expressed their gratitude to the High Commission for organising the training and assured their efforts to make the best use of this opportunity.
