National Crime Prevention Committee meets CJ and Supreme Court Bench


National Crime Prevention Committee formed by the President has met with the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court bench yesterday.

The Committee formed to work collectively with the three powers of the state to bring a comprehensive solution to the pervasive problem of criminal offences and as a first step to curtail criminal violence, mainly discussed with the Chief justice and Judges of the Supreme Court on the steps necessary to curb gang violence in the Male’ and in the islands.

The Committee reiterated that the situation cannot be tolerated in which the country continues to be engulfed by the crime wave which includes gang murders, crimes against women and children, drug trafficking, armed robbery, fraud and theft.

 

The Committee said that all must take the war to the criminals and no longer allow the situation to be disregarded those entities, who, for whatever reason, are bent to engage in criminal and anti-social activities. They said appealed the Supreme Court to take their part in taking all necessary measures to bring down the levels of crime.

 

The Committee comprises of National Security Advisor Ameen Faisal, Minister of Home Affairs Hassan Afeef, Attorney General Abdullah Muizz, Minister of State for Defense and National Security Mohamed Muizz Adnan and Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizz.
