Eva calls to leave aside DRP internal fights in Majlis
Galolhu Uthuru MP Eva Abdullah has yesterday called out to MPs of the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) to leave aside the fuming internal crisis within DRP when in the Peoples’ Majlis and not to play with the laws and regulations of the Majlis.
Speaking at yesterday’s sitting of the Peoples’ Majlis, Eva appealed the members not to take the factionalism within DRP outside the party’s council and party meetings. She pleaded the members not to influence the Majlis laws and regulations.
“What has been proposed now is nothing but the strife and fighting within DRP. They want to remove the Speaker from his position at all accounts. Thus, I do not favour this amendment,” she said.
Eva said that in elections such as the presidential elections and parliamentary elections she has the right to vote independently to her own choice without anyone imposing on her otherwise. However, she said that votes taken within the Majlis will always be in favour of the people of Galolhu Uthuru district whom she represents.
“I want to clarify to the people what I speak and debate in the Peoples’ Majlis, I want them to know to which I am voting for,” she said.
Meanwhile, the news of the fuming internal crisis within DRP has been making headlines in the media for quiet sometime. The anti-Thasmeen movement now led by DRP’s founding leader Gayoom, has been continuously attempting to expose Thasmeen’s leadership lapses and defame him. Though it was Former President, DRP founding Leader Gayoom himself who endorsed Thasmeen to be his successor in party leadership, his support for Thasmeen has been apparently lost. However, against the background of all these mounting challenges and the volatile internal clashes, Thasmeen keeps assuring his fellow party members and supporters that he will remain firm as Party Leader despite the opposition trying to oust him.
