SAARC Transport connectivity will broaden trade bond with Bangladesh-Pres


President Mohamed Nasheed has attended the reception hosted by High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives Rear Admiral A.I.M.A Awal to mark the 4th anniversary of Bangladesh’s National Day.

In his address, at the reception held at Dharubaaruge yesterday, President Mohamed Nasheed said that SAARC’s transport connectivity programme which will link the South Asian, Indian Ocean island nations with the subcontinent will broaden the trade bond between Bangladesh and Maldives.

President Nasheed underscored the importance of making the good relations between the two countries better. He said that it is hoped that Maldives and Bangladesh will be able to embark on the SAARC transport connectivity program and get rapid results before the SAARC Summit.

Furthermore, the President also expressed his gratitude for Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Haseena, her eminent authority in international affairs. He said that her presence in international affairs has always assisted him personally, and the Maldives in imprinting the mobility of the issues that is hasted, most importantly: climate change.

President Nasheed also said that Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s work in the Copenhagen summit was drawn and concluded and is always appreciated, not only by the Maldives but also by the wider international community.

“Bangladesh has also assisted us and worked with us in many areas that has had a very strong relevance to the Maldives; recently and most importantly in multinational loan agency funding mechanisms. The current procedures have been very very typical to many many developed countries…Bangladesh have a very strong set of experiences and working relationships with these agencies. Therefore, we have been able to work very closely with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister to revise their procedures,” he said.

The President said that he is grateful for the work the prime minister is doing in this area.
