Feydhoo, Hithadhoo and Lhohi DRP group denies sending any letter to the party
Noonu Lhohi and Addu Atoll Feydhoo and Hithadhoo’s branch of the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) have denied sending a letter to show their disapproval of the leadership of DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali.
DRP Branches of Lhohi, Feydhoo and Hithadhoo denied in less than 24 hours after DRP Founding Leader, Dictator Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s spokesperson Mohamed Hussein Shareef (Mundhu) alleged to have received letters from these branches to show their disapproval of DRP leader.
Speaking to the audience of the rally held near Tsunami monument Friday night by Gayyoom’s faction of DRP, read out letters alleged to have been sent by these three branches. However, Feydhoo and Hithadhoo branches strongly condemned Gayyoom’s faction for this act.
DRP Feydhoo Branch President Hussein Rasheed said that he will be aware if a letter was sent by them.
“I do not believe that this letter they read out was sent by our branch. If it was so, it would have been signed by me. I do not know anything about this letter,” he said.
Furthermore, Hussein Rasheed said that DRP Feydhoo branch has not taken any stand in the factionalism within the party.
“We are still with DRP. The Committee has not decided to go with a certain personality,” he said.
DRP Hithadhoo Branch President who has presided the branch for nearly 5 years also reiterated that they have not sent any letter mentioning their disapproval for anyone. He said that no letter will be sent by the branch without his approval or knowledge.
He said that he was informed that this letter alleged to have been sent by DRP Hithadhoo Branch was signed by former Vice President of that branch, Ibrahim Rasheed Wajdi, who is now a member of Peoples’ Alliance (PA).
Lhohi DRP Branch also denied sending such a letter and said that it was very irresponsible for Gayyoom’s faction to allege that a letter was sent by them.
Meanwhile, the news of the fuming internal crisis within DRP has been making headlines in the media for quiet sometime. The anti-Thasmeen movement now led by DRP’s founding leader Gayoom, has been continuously attempting to expose Thasmeen’s leadership lapses and defame him.
Though it was Former President, DRP founding Leader Gayoom himself who endorsed Thasmeen to be his successor in party leadership, his support for Thasmeen has been apparently lost.
However, against the background of all these mounting challenges and the volatile internal clashes, Thasmeen assured his fellow party members and supporters he will remain firm as Party Leader despite the opposition trying to oust him.
