United Artists Maldives (UAM) organizes an “International Artists Camp”
United Artists Maldives(UAM), an NGO of artists, organized an International Artists Camp at Addu City from 10th March to 19th March 2011. The Camp was attended by six artists from India and nine artists from Maldives.
An exhibition of the works produced during the Camp was inaugurated by the Home Minister Mr Hassan Afeef at the National Museum on 20th March 2011.
Of interest, was the diversity of art works which came through as a result of the interaction between the artists from both countries. Where the fresh talent of Zara Mujtaba, Aishath Huda and AimaMusthafa showcased Maldives in all its facets, senior artists like AhmedSuveyb , Ahmed Naeem, HussainAfeef, Hussain Ali Manik, Ibrahim Rasheed and Fahumy reflected and expressed particular aspects and styles which were woven with their experiences at the workshop. The Indian group of artists which consisted of SadhanaSangar, Shashi Thakur, SaurabhNarang, HemaliBhuta, Gurdeep Singh Dhiman and Chaman Sharma were exposed to the reviving art scenario and the dynamism offered by the cultural and social aspects of the country. During the workshop they brought out these experiences in their own styles and helped make this international camp a success.
Of particular note was Mr. Ahmed Suveb’s faith in the UAM’s ability to hold such events and help revive the art scenario in Maldives which was much appreciated by all concerned. Mr. Suveb, General Secretary of UAM has been working tirelessly with his team and together they have managed to put together this camp and turn it into an international event entirely on their own.
The exhibition was greatly appreciated and it was felt that active support from authorities would help make such events into a regular feature at a much larger scale and provide local budding talent much needed opportunity to further tap their potential.
