2 dead in Orchidge fire

Two women died in the early morning after a fire broke out in their residence, HenveiruOrchidge.

HaajiEdhurugeDhonSiththi73, and Iuthisham Adam28, were pronounced dead at the scene after firefighters took control of the fire, Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said.

Late DhonSiththi was the mother of Deputy Minister of Health and Family FathimathAfiya and Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva Iruthisham Adam. Late Iuthisham Adam was their sister.

President Nasheed paid a condolence visit to the grieving family of Henveiru Orchid after the fire accident at the house resulted in death of two women of the house.

Meeting the members of the grieving family this morning, President Mohamed Nasheed expressed his deep sympathy and sent sincere condolences to the bereaved family.

The first floor of the house, where the women's bodies were found, was engulfed in flames said MNDF speaking to the media yesterday.

MNDF Staff said that “"Sadly, when our crew entered the building they found the women. They were both in a room upstairs.”

Maldives Police Service said they were working to establish the cause of this bizarre fire.
