Have to go to court to decide on the real DRP- DRP

Main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has said that in the light of the current events within the party, the court now shall decide on who the real DRP is from the faction of DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali and DRP Founding Leader Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.

Speaking to Miadhu Daily, a high ranking official of DRP said that the division and factionalism within the party is above the control of the council of the party and now the court can only decide which side the real DRP is from both the factions.

The official said that DRP is now taken as a certain personality and DRP letterhead, logo are used autocratically, in opposition to the council of the party by certain individuals. The informant added that this is a grave mistake on the part of those who are committing this felony.

The high ranking official of DRP also said that the party council is the highest organ of the party and the decisions of the council should be respected by the party. He also said that it is upon each and every individual members to accept the decisions of the majority.

He also said that the charter of the party clearly mentions on how the letterhead and logo of the party should be used. He said that founding leader of DRP, Gayoom can use the letterhead always. He also said that DRP Youth wing president Mahloof also can use the letterhead, but with the condition that he mentions the ‘DRP Youth Wing’ after the letterhead.

Meanwhile, the news of the fuming internal crisis within DRP has been making headlines in the media for quiet sometime. The anti-Thasmeen movement now led by DRP’s founding leader Gayoom, has been continuously attempting to expose Thasmeen’s leadership lapses and defame him.

Though it was Former President, DRP founding Leader Gayoom himself who endorsed Thasmeen to be his successor in party leadership, his support for Thasmeen has been apparently lost.

However, against the background of all these mounting challenges and the volatile internal clashes, Thasmeen assured his fellow party members and supporters he will remain firm as Party Leader despite the opposition trying to oust him.
