MDP warns of taking action if the problem of Parliamentary Committees is not solved

The ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has warned of taking action if the problem of the Parliamentary Committees is not solved. MDP said that they might have to consider taking action if the works of the committees are kept on pause.

Speaking at the press conference held yesterday by the Parliamentary Group of MDP, the Parliamentary Group leader, Ibrahim Solih said that the committees still remain unreconstructed with the changes in the political parties representing the MPs. He said that the issue remains unresolved even though the Charter of Parliamentary Committees state that the committees should be reconstructed in this circumstances.

Hinnavaru MP, Solih said that the parliamentary group of MDP is still holding discussions with the opposition parties. However he said that the details cannot be disclosed since the discussions have not been concluded.

Thoddoo MP, Ali Waheed who recently switched to MDP from the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), said that the problem is due to the inability of the opposition to digest the fact that the ruling MDP has won the majority in the Peoples’ Majlis.

Ali Waheed said that the Speaker of the Majlis, Abdullah Shahid should take the responsibility of the problem of the Parliamentary Committees. He assured that MDP would stop at nothing to take action if the problem remains unsolved.

Ali Waheed signaled that the ruling party might consider even taking a no-confidence vote against the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Peoples’ Majlis.
