An interim congress will produce the same results as the ACC report: Rozaina

Thulusdhoo MP, Rozaina Adam has said that even if an interim congress of the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) is held as requested by the DRP Honorary Leader Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, it will produce the same results as the report of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Speaking to the media, Rozaina Adam said that the faction of Honorary Leader Gayyoom will reject the decisions of the interim congress just like they rejected the report of ACC on Umar Naseer’s allegations that DRP Leader, Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, and Speaker of the Peoples’ Majlis, Abdullah Shahid, took bribes from GMR Infrastructure.

“Umar filed the case with ACC. But however he rejected the report of ACC on the issue because it did not end up the way he wanted. An interim congress can be held as requested by the Honorary Leader. But if the decisions of the congress go against the way they want, they will reject it,” she said.

Speaking on the announcement of Gayyoom’s faction to media that 50 islands have requested to hold a congress, Rozaina said that she is doubtful regarding the authenticity of this claim.

Rozaina said that the actions of Gayyoom’s faction are similar to that of the current government. She said that both the government and Gayyoom’s faction reject the decisions of independent bodies if the decisions go against the way they want.

Meanwhile, Medhu Henveiru MP, Ali Azim also made a smiliar comment regarding Gayyoom’s faction. He said that the faction replicates the behavior of the MDP government which contravenes democratic fundamentals. He said that although the current government claims to be the vanguards of democratic rule, the government blatantly disregards the decisions of the courts of law and independent bodies. He said that the faction of Gayyoom has now followed suit in this regard in rejecting the verdicts of the courts of law and independent bodies.
