Gasim endorsed as representative of the Peoples’ Majlis in JSC

Opposition Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and Maamigili MP has been endorsed by the Peoples’ Majlis as the representative of the People’s Majlis in Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in yesterday’s sitting of the Majlis.

The People’s Majlis endorsed Gasim Ibrahim as the Majlis representative at JSC yesterday. 38 MPs out the 77 MPs voted in favour of Gasim, while 36 voted against him.

Meanwhile, President Mohamed Nasheed congratulated Gasim Ibrahim on People’s Majlis endorsing him as the representative of the People’s Majlis in Judicial Service Commission.

The President congratulated Gasim Ibrahim, yesterday afternoon, while on a tour of Raa Atoll. During the telephone conversation, President Nasheed and Gasim Ibrahim underlined the importance of strengthening the country’s judiciary.

Gasim won the post while the parliamentary group of the ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) decided to endorse Mariya Ahmed Didi as a candidate for the vacant post of the Representative of the Peoples’ Majlis in the JSC.

Earlier Ungufaaru MP, Dr. Afrasheem Ali was filling the post however he was dismissed from the commission after a vote of no-confidence taken against him.
