Some MPs like Mr. Makhloof are just putting an act to portray themselves as working for the people- Riyaz Rasheed
Vilufushi MP, Riyaz Rasheed has said that there are some MPs like Mr. Makhloof who just put an act to portray themselves as working for the best interest of the people by proposing different bills.
Speaking at yesterday’s session of the Peoples’ Majlis, Riyas Rasheed said that these MPs by proposing these odd bills are just putting up an act to show the people that they are concerned.
“What sincerity do you have? Is it not because of the lack of sincerity that the country is in its current situation? What is it that you want to speak here about the people when your party is now divided so much so that you despise facing one another? Who is it that taking money that different bills are being presented here? Who is it that has usurped the money? So there is no need to propose these different kinds of bills when you are getting exposed in front of the people. Whether this bill be passed or not, the members have a choice to take this (allowance) or leave it. As for me I would not take it,” Riyaz Rasheed said.
“I request the one who presented this amendment to say that he also does not need this allowance. I want him to say that he does not need the salary that the Majlis is now giving him. Why is it that he is shying away from saying this? Why not stand up and say this? Tell to the people that you are not in need of your salary. Tell that you do not need your allowance. If you are that sincere why not tell the people this?,” rejecting the amendment presented by Galolhu Dhekunu MP Ahmed Mahloof to annul the allowance of MRF 20000, Riyaz said.
Riyaz said that he does not need to usurp money from the people. He also criticized some members for showing off that they gave such and such amount to the such and such people as monetary aid for the needy.
“Is it not you the same respected members that said that you help the people who come to you? Did you ever hear us telling these things? Is it that we do not help the people? Why is there a need for you to boast that you spend your salary in the cause of the people? Is this not showing off? Is this not singing your own praises?” he queried.
Riyaz Rasheed while questioning on what the former regime did for the sake of the people in the 30 year long rule, noted that although the present government do some few good for the people the majority is done against the will of the people.
“What is with you? Presenting these things and degrading the people? I am ashamed at you! You had a 30 year rule. What is it that you did for the sake of the people? We have not seen anything,” he said.
“The current regime is doing some good. But we are saying that that most of their actions and decisions are not good. Although some are done for the benefit of the people, most of what they are doing is bad. And from them is that we are now stuck in current shortage of US Dollars in the country,” he said.
Riyaz asserted that the Maldives faced the current situation it is now because of the insincerity of the members and the government.
“Then of what people are you speaking about? There is none from you who intend good for the people. Here always were those who worked to achieve their own agendas drowned in their own desires and wants. I request you members not to present these kinds of proposals that bring shame to the whole Majlis. If a member does not want his allowance or his salary then it is upon him not to take these allowances or salary. Why do we take accept these allowances? We do not have to,” he said.
Riyaz Rasheed also showed concern on the soaring prices of commodities and services with the escalation of the US Dollar exchange rate. He called on the members not to play with the emotions of the people in a time when the people are at such difficulties.
