Taj Exotica celebrates World Environment Day

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives is the first resort to have received Earth Check Silver Status Certification. In keeping with its environment friendly practices and support the resort celebrated the World Environment Day 2011 with an enthusiastic three day program. World Environment day is one of the most important tools of the United Nation to make people aware of the worldwide environmental crisis and draw the attention and action of the world at large. 5th June is celebrated as the World Environment day.

A note was sent out to all guests on the various activities such as the reef cleaning with the newest member of the Taj team – Ocean Sports Dive Center, tree planting and switching off lights from 1930 hours to 2030 hours on June 05, 2010.

The activities were kick started on 3rd June 2011 with a poster making competition – “Forests – Nature at your Service” amongst the associates.

On June 04, 2011 the Dive Center team at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa invited certified divers to clean the reef at 0930 hours while those who wanted to stay in the shallow waters of one of the largest lagoon in whole of Maldives cleaned the lagoon and the beach. Associates and managers from all departments gathered at the wedding pavilion for debrief at 1545 hours after planting trees and were divided into teams assigned to different sections covering the entire lagoon. In an hour the teams cleaned the lagoon of all its dirt and regrouped at the wedding pavilion to enjoy sandwiches and cool drinks. In the evening the resident Marine Biologist spread awareness among our guests on Marine pollution through a series of presentations at the Equator Lounge.

In the evening of June 05, 2011 from 1930 hours to 2030 hours the lights in the public areas of the resort were switched off and the entire island was softly lit with the glow of candles and shimmering moonlight. This exercise saved us 150 litres of diesel and 480 Units of Electricity in just one hour of light shut down.
