MEMP meets the Minister and Senior
Officials of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture
Representatives from
Maldives Environmental Management Project met the Minister of Tourism, Arts and
Culture Dr Mariyam Zulfa and senior officials of the ministry on the 25th of
May.
During the meeting
presentations were made to introduce the MEMP project to the Minister, and also
to give information regarding especially the Waste Management component and the
Capacity Building component of the project.
Information was shared
regarding the Regional Waste Management Facility which is planned to be
established starting this year in the North Province, and the different
arrangements and financial considerations that are relevant to this part of the
project.
Under the Capacity Building
component, the Minister and officials were given information on the Bachelor of
Environment Management (BEM) that has been established by MEMP in collaboration
with the Faculty of Education of the Maldives National University, along with a
scholarship scheme. Additionally, the different possibilities for employment of
graduates of the course in the tourism industry were discussed.
MEMP will be funding
scholarships for the BEM for 25 students per batch and 25 students per year for
the Foundation level 2 course for the BEM until mid-2013, when the project ends
