True independence is freedom from colonial powers- Shaheem

Former State Minister for Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that Maldives is a geographically independent country but the true independence of the country can only be attained by attaining freedom from colonial powers.

In the Friday sermon given in Masjid Mohamed Thakurufaanu al-Auzam, Sheikh Shaheem said that Maldivians have always been protective of the Islamic Unity in the Maldives. He said that the enemies of Islam and the country are envious of this protectiveness the people of Maldives have for their faith.

Shaheem said that the people can never have true independence and freedom if they are undue influence of foreign parties.

The Former Islamic Affairs State Minister said that Maldivians have been living in peace and harmony because of the one true faith they are upon.

“The foundation of this independence and freedom is our Islamic faith. This is the biggest bounty of Allah upon us,” he said.
