Maldives signs an MoU with Cambridge Commonwealth Trust


A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Government of Maldives and Cambridge Commonwealth Trust (CCT) establishing a scholarship programme at the University of Cambridge to support undergraduate students from the Maldives. Maldives High Commissioner to United Kingdom, Dr. Farah Faizal signed on behalf of the Government and Director Mr. Michael O'Sullivansigned the MoU on behalf of CCT.

The objective of the MoU is to provide opportunities for able and financially needy secondary school graduates from the Maldives to study for the degree of Bachelor of Arts (BA) at the University of Cambridge. According to the MoU, one scholarship will be provided to the Maldives by CCT from 2012 to 2015 to study in University of Cambridge. The scholarships will be funded by both the Maldivian Government and the CCT, with 50 percent of the funds provided by the Government and the other half funded by CCT.

The Scholarship is tenable in any subject at Cambridge University, with the exception of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, for a BA course of three or four years’ duration.  The criteria for eligibility includes that candidates should be citizens of the Maldives who are currently resident in the Maldives and who had completed their secondary education entirely in the Maldives.
