National Heritage can only be protected by teaching History- Waheedudin

Member of the National Heritage Committee, Mohamed Waheedudin has said that the national heritage of Maldives can only be protected by incorporating Maldivian History in the school curricula.

Waheedudin who is also a member of the National Museum Committee said that Maldivian history was taught during the time of the First President of Maldives, Mohamed Ameen, to protect national heritage and to promote Maldivian culture. He said that President Ameen even authored a history book because of the lack of such books in that time.

Waheedudin said that if the history was to be renewed with the change of regimes then the country will have no history at all. He said that every regime will have its good and its bad. He underscored the importance of relating the history of both the good and the bad so as to protect the national heritage.

Waheedudin said that Maldivian history will be taught in the training programme for the councilors held under his supervision in Bandos.
