DRP coalition did not agree to grant any
posts to any party- Thasmeen
Presidential Elections 2013 will be won by Coalition of Opposition Parties- Dr.
Hassan Saeed
Leader of the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has said that the coalition agreement signed by DRP and opposition Dhivehi Qaumee Party (DQP) have not mentioned granting any posts to any of the parties.
Speaking at the special ceremony held on Bandos Island Resort, DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali said that both parties agreed to make government accountable, In addition both parties also agreed to work together in 2013 presidential election, 2014 parliamentary election and same year local council election.
Thasmeen said that the hopes of the people giving out their hand to DRP. He added that the hopes of the people can only be satiated by winning the Presidential Elections. He said that it is high time to work to achieve that goal.
Thasmeen said that the coalition agreement signed with DQP is a good foundation and that DRP has worked unofficially with many of the parties.
Thasmeen also said that although DRP has not officially signed any coalition with any of the parties during the Local Council Elections, the party was thinking of the coalition.
“During Local Council Elections we have not officially signed any coalition with any of the parties. But we have been having talks with other opposition parties on the matter. Although no official agreement have been made, we always had the thoughts of working together to oust the present government. And because of this thought we made quiet a big success,” DRP Leader
Furthermore, Thasmeen said that working together is a necessity to win the Presidential Elections. He said that it is because of this that the matter was taken to the Party’s council. Thasmeen said the commission also agreed to make coalition.
Thasmeen said that DRP is open to any party who wants call the government to account. He said that the reason for the “sad state” of the country now is because of the failure of DRP during the Presidential Elections.
In the ceremony, DQP President Dr. Hassan Saeed also spoke. He said that the party has been working to make the government responsible in spite of the many obstacles.
Dr. Hassan Saeed also said that the election to be held in 2013 and will be won by the coalition of the parties.
