Yaameen is behind Inaz’s meeting with him: Zuhair

Press Secretary Mohamed Zuhair has said that there is reason to believe that Parliamentary Council member of the opposition Peoples’ Progressive Party (PPM) member and Mulaku MP Abdullah Yaameen took the initiative for the meeting held between him and Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Inaz.

Zuhair said that politicians will be meeting politicians but however Minister Inaz and MP Yaameen did not follow the proper ethics.

The Press Secretary said that Minister Inaz did not officially resign from his ministerial position because it can never be confirmed if it was the Minister who sent a text message to the President stating his resignation.

Zuhair said that the President has not decided to sack the Minister and it is upon the Minister’s hand whether to remain in office or resign.

Furthermore, Zuhair said that many people have sent letters expressing their distrust over the Minister with regards to his meeting with the half-brother of the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

Tuesday night, Minister Inaz was forced to send an SMS to President Nasheed stating his resignation from the ministerial post. He was dragged to the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s strong-house by MDP activists claiming that they saw him having a clandestine meeting with Mulaku MP and Council member of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdullah Yaameen in the latter’s private car.

According to eye witnesses, Minister Inaz was verbally abused and pushed at the corner of the strong-house of the ruling party.

It is reported in the local media that Vice President of MDP, Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy was present at the strong-house when the activists verbally abused him and forced to resign from his ministerial position.

“Inaz was literally dragged out of the car and taken to MDP strong-house. The activists of the ruling party used very foul language against him and called for his resignation. They claimed that Inaz was having clandestine deals with Abdullah Yaameen, the half-brother of the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom,” the informant said.
