Govt is spreading lies regarding the motive of the protestors: Mohamed Didi
Sheikh Mohamed Didi, the President of the Civil Society Coalition has said that the government has been spreading lies regarding the motive of the “In defense of Islam” mass protest to be held on December 23 nationwide.
In view of the recent statement of the President that the real call of the religious protestors is to initiate the implementation of Islamic penalties such as stoning, hand-cutting and execution in the Maldives, Sheikh Mohamed Didi said that none from the organizers has mentioned that the aim of the protest is to implement Islamic penalties.
“What penalties is the President talking about? It is him who said about it in the first place. None of the members of the many meetings we held regarding the protest ever mentioned this,” he said.
Sheikh Mohamed Didi said that the government is making such false claims to throw monkey wrench into the motives of the protest because it is going to be the biggest demonstration ever to be staged in the history of Maldives. He said that the government is frustrated by the reality and wants to divert the attention of the people elsewhere.
Sheikh Mohamed Didi also said that the country might be lead into civil war and catastrophe with the irresponsible reckless behavior of the government towards the protest. He said that the Civil Society Coalition wants the government to immediately stop all the false claims and to stop deceiving people.
Furthermore, Sheikh Mohamed Didi said that the Civil Society Coalition does not seek violence and would never organize a violent protest.
Sheikh Mohamed Didi said that the network of NGOs are not intimidated by the scare tactics of the government and will hold the protest on December 23.
