Nothing can be rectified if corruption
exists in the govt-Mustafa
Thimarafushi MP, Mohamed Mustafa has said that true rectification cannot be brought to the country if corruption continues to exist in the government.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Mustafa said that some top officials of the government have been stealing from the state revenue. Explaining his accusations, Mustafa said that the current bill on medical devices proposed to the Peoples’ Majlis was proposed by such people for their own benefit.
Mustafa alleged that these people are buying cheap medical equipment from China and stealing money from the state by saying that the equipment were bought from Germany.
“This country cannot be rectified except with eliminating all people involved in corruption. We should take down all the corrupt officials in the government. The people cannot live happily except by arresting these people,” he said.
Debating on the bill, Mustafa said, “We can only speak the same. What I know is that if a person is operated in a Maldivian Hospital he would have to undergo the same operation thrice. If a cut is stitched, it would need to be stitched six more times. I do hope that these problems would be solved by bringing these devices. What is apparent is that this bill was also proposed under a clandestine deal.”
He said that the problem is not with the lack of doctors and nurses. He said, “They bring rubbish to the country. Fake equipment. The machine would last for only two days. On the third day the machine would not work. I am not against importing these tools and equipment. I have no problem if this carried out wisely and properly. But the problem is that those who import these products are drenched in corruption. They do not care about this nation. They do not care about the people. The only thing they worry is about themselves.”
