Ibrahim Nasir International Airport’s Terminal Improvement Programme (TIP)initiative has shown near completion.
“At the end of the day all passengers visit the Maldives for pleasure, so why notlet them arrive and depart from the gateway of Maldives with happy and very satisfiednotions. And to make our customers’ as our first priority we need to focus on a plan thatrequires consistent performance of tasks that will sustain and grow the business.,” avers MrAndrew Harrision, CEO of INIA, when asked as to the reason for a Terminal ImprovementProgramme (TIP) resolution.
“I am proud to state that most of the development plans focused on expansion and theprovision of basic facilities for passenger ease has been settled and operations are smoothsailing,” states Mr Andrew Harrison. GMIAL deciding to go beyond the requirements of theConcession Agreement by spending more on improving the existing terminal theredevelopment work is referred to as the Terminal Improvement Programme (TIP) and hasbeen referred to that way since March 2011. It replaced the 180 dayprogramme because ithas several additional improvements that will continue over the 2.5 year shelf life of theexisting terminal. The improvements we have highlighted are only part of theseimprovements.
The airport’s next stage will be focused on establishing minimum service levels to facilitatethe Terminal Improvement Programme (TIP). Medium-term programmeswill be spreadover a two to three year period and will focus on investment and infrastructuredevelopment. GMIAL seen as a key player in the process development mechanisms, hasbeen active for some time already, and now have completed processes to ease the trafficflow.
Meanwhile, the brand new lounges that are scheduled to open in September will typify theessence of the Maldives and will exalt comfort, elegance and exclusivity.
Also, in the pipeline is the new airport website focused on browser compatibility, and,search engine optimization, so that a visitor gets maximum out of the website and theworld of Maldives.
GMR Infrastructure Limited won the bid in June 2010 to build, operate, modernize and expand theMale’ International Airport. In this Joint Venture, GMR holds 77% and the remaining 23% is held byMalaysian Airports Holdings Berhad. The expansion project is expected to be complete by June2014.
