Mohamed Jameel should be emulated in
standing firm against Zionists- Shaheem
Former State Minister of
Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that fourty
years ago Sheikh Mohamed Jameel showed to the people of Maldives how the people
should treat the Zionists.
Speaking at the “Aqsa
Forum” held yesterday evening, Shaheem said that the people of Maldives should
emulate Sheikh Mohamed Jameel in standing firm against the Zionists.
Shaheem said that during
the regime of President Ibrahim Nasir, the Maldives established diplomatic
relations with the State of the Zionists, Israel. He said that an Israeli
Zionist ambassador came to Maldives and openly blasphemed against the religion
of Islam.
“In response to these
sacrilegious actions of the Zionist, the then Supreme Judge of Maldives, Sheikh
Mohamed Jameel gave a powerful sermon in the Friday prayer after which the
sheikh was asked to resign from his post by the government,” he said.
Shaheem said that on behalf
of Nasir’s government, it was Ibraheem Shihab who called for the resignation of
Sheikh Mohamed Jameel. He said that however the Sheikh argued that there is
plausible reason for him to resign and that his stance against the Zionists is
correct. He noted that after three days Sheikh Mohamed Jameel resigned and was
later appointed as the Supreme Judge during the regime of President Maumoon
Abdul Gayoom.
Shaheem highlighted that
the relations with the State of the Jews was under restrictions during the 30
year rule of Gayoom.
Shaheem said that the
people of Maldives should be proud of the stance taken by the late Sheikh
Mohamed Jameel against the Zionists.
